What you can do.

If you need a room

Browse rooms on offer
The Offering tab lists every live room and lease transfer. Price per week, available date, bedrooms, gender preference and a Lease Transfer badge are on the card, so you can rule rooms out before you open them.
Search the way you think
Type a suburb, street, postcode, state, room type or property type. Every word you type has to match, so "Auburn studio" finds studios in Auburn.
Filter to what you can take
Pick several suburbs at once, then narrow by gender preference (Boy, Girl, Couple), listing type (room for rent or lease transfer), available-from date, price band from under $200 to $500+ a week, and bedrooms (1 to 5, or studio).
Sort by what matters
Newest, price low to high, price high to low, or Close to Station, which uses the walking minutes the poster entered. Rooms already taken always sort last.
Scope it to your area
Set the location bar to your suburb, your state (the default) or all of Australia.
Read the whole listing
Photos, the street address, minutes to the station, furnished or not, bathroom, parking, bills, water and WiFi, the house rules, and what is nearby with walking times, from the train to the Nepali grocer.
Post that you are looking
Say who the room is for, the room type, your budget range, your move-in date and every suburb you would take. People with a room can find you and contact you first.
Save and share
Tap the heart to keep a room in Favourites, or share it through your phone's share sheet.

If you have a room

Post a room or a lease transfer
Up to 6 photos, property type, room type, bedrooms, price per week, the address with suburb autocomplete, what is nearby with walking times, key features, house rules, gender preference and the available-from date. It goes live straight away.
Browse people who are looking
The Looking tab shows budget ranges, preferred suburbs and move-in dates, with an Urgent badge on anyone who needs to move in immediately. Filter to urgent only, or by who the room is for.
See who contacted you
Every Message, Call or WhatsApp tap on your room is logged, so My Appointments shows who reached out and how many times.
Book viewings
Propose a viewing time in My Appointments and the other person confirms or declines it. Confirmed viewings show on your listing.
See how it is doing
Performance shows the views, contacts, saves and shares on your room.
Keep it current
Edit it, mark it as taken, or delete it from Profile, My Listings. Once an expired room has been archived, a Relist button posts a fresh copy.

Inside Rooms, screen by screen.

Each screen is rebuilt from the Chaana app. Scroll, and the phone follows along.

The answer to the obvious question, on the card.

Price per week, when the room is available and how long ago it was posted sit on the photo. Property type, bedrooms, any gender preference and a Lease Transfer badge are on the card, so you only open rooms you could take.

  • Price per week
  • Available-from date
  • Gender preference
  • Lease transfers marked

Narrow it to rooms you could actually take.

Sort by newest, price either way, or Close to Station. Pick as many suburbs as you like, then filter by gender preference, listing type, available-from date, price band and bedrooms.

  • Close to Station sort
  • Several suburbs at once
  • Price bands per week
  • Bedrooms 1 to 5, or studio

Everything you would have had to ask, already answered.

Furnished or not, the bathroom, parking and bills on one row. Then the gender preference in plain words, the description, what is included, and the house rules you would otherwise find out after you move in.

  • Bills, water and WiFi
  • Ensuite, private or shared bathroom
  • Garage, off-street or street parking
  • House rules

The walk to the station, in minutes.

Transport, groceries and recreation, each with the walking time the poster entered: the train, the bus, the Nepali grocer, the park.

  • Train, bus, light rail, airport
  • Nepali grocers, Woolworths, Coles, Aldi
  • Park, gym, beach

A safety note at the moment you reach out.

Tap Message, WhatsApp or Call and a short note appears first. When a listing looks risky, it says "Take extra care" and tells you why. Then your phone opens with the message already written.

  • Never pay before you view
  • Reasons listed when it looks risky
  • Report straight from the note

Have a room? Find the person, instead of waiting.

The Looking tab is people describing what they need: a budget range, preferred suburbs, a move-in date and who the room is for. Anyone who needs to move in immediately is marked Urgent.

  • Budget range
  • Preferred suburbs
  • Move-in date
  • Urgent marked

Ten seconds to know whether to get in touch.

Their budget, every suburb they would take, when they can move and a few lines about them. Message, WhatsApp or Call from the card.

  • Message, WhatsApp or Call

Post a room with nothing left vague.

Up to 6 photos, property type, bedrooms, price, the address with suburb autocomplete, what is nearby with walking times, the key features, house rules and the available-from date. It is live as soon as you post.

What you get.

  • Fewer listings to open

Price, available date, bedrooms, gender preference and lease-transfer status are on the card, so you only open the rooms you could actually take.

  • The usual questions, already answered

Bills, water, WiFi, bathroom, parking, house rules, and walking minutes to the station and shops are fields on the listing, not messages you have to send.

  • Both sides of the market

If you have a room, you do not have to wait. Browse people who are looking, with their budget and suburbs, and contact them first.

  • A board that stays current

Room listings hide themselves after 7 to 30 days, so you are not calling about a room that went last month.

  • A warning at the moment it counts

The safety note appears when you tap to contact someone, not on a help page nobody opens.

How you are protected.

The safety rules and limits, stated plainly.

  • "Never pay before viewing. Inspect in person." sits at the top of the Rooms board.

  • Before you contact a poster, a note reminds you never to pay a bond, deposit or holding fee before you have seen the room. It becomes "Take extra care", with the reasons listed, when the account is under 7 days old, the listing asks for money to hold the room, or the rent is under $100 a week.

  • Every room page ends with how to proceed safely: arrange a viewing, never pay before you view the room in person, get a written agreement, and make sure any bond is lodged with your state bond authority.

  • Report a listing by picking a reason, such as "Asking for money upfront". Three safety reports hide a room automatically until the Chaana team reviews it.

  • Phone numbers are never printed on a listing. They sit behind the Call, Message and WhatsApp buttons. When you text or call a poster, they see your number.

  • The street address you enter is shown to signed-in members. Rooms are never on the public website or in search engines.

  • Up to 3 room posts per person per day, and listings from suspended or banned accounts disappear for everyone.

  • Nobody can pay to put a room at the top. Featured is not available for rooms.

Questions people ask.

How do I find a room for rent in Sydney through the Nepali community?

Open the Rooms tab in the Chaana app, set the location bar to your suburb or NSW, and filter by suburbs, price per week, bedrooms, gender preference, available date or lease transfer. Sort by Close to Station if transport matters, or post a "Looking for a room" so people with a room can contact you.

Is it free to post a room on Chaana?

Yes. Browsing and posting rooms is free, and there is no paid option for rooms. You can post up to 3 room listings a day.

How long does a room listing stay up?

Between 7 and 30 days, depending on the available-from date. After that it is hidden from others, and you can relist it from My Listings.

Can I message the poster inside the app?

No. Chaana has no in-app chat. Tapping Message, WhatsApp or Call opens your phone's SMS app, WhatsApp or dialler with a polite message already written.

Is the room's address shown?

Yes. Room listings show the street address the poster enters, to signed-in members only. Rooms are not on the public website.

What is a lease transfer on Chaana?

A listing from someone handing over their lease. It is its own listing type with a Lease Transfer badge, and you can filter for it.

How do I avoid rental scams?

Never pay a bond, deposit or holding fee before you have seen the room in person. Chaana shows a safety note before you contact a poster and says "Take extra care" when a listing looks risky; report anything that asks for money upfront.

Do I need an account to see rooms?

Yes. Rooms can only be seen by signed-in members. An account needs only an email and password, and joining is free.
