Safety and reporting, built into every part of Chaana.

Chaana has no separate safety centre; the protections sit inside each feature. You get a safety note before you contact a room or job poster, scam warnings on the Rooms and Jobs boards and in Saath, a report button on listings, posts and comments, and moderation that hides reported content and suspends people who break the rules.

What you can do.

Warnings where the risk is

Board banners
Rooms: "Never pay before viewing. Inspect in person." Jobs: "Never pay money upfront for a job. Verify the employer before sharing documents."
The contact safety note
Before you message, WhatsApp or call about a room or job. It says "Take extra care" and lists the reasons when the account is under 7 days old, the text asks for money to hold a room or for job fees, the rent is under $100 a week, or the pay is under $20 an hour.
The ABN notice
Every job paid on an ABN warns you about no super, no leave and no workers compensation, and links to the ABN or TFN explainer.
Room and job-seeker tips
Every room page ends with how to proceed safely, and every looking-for-work post comes with five job-scam tips.
Scam alerts in Saath
Scam Alert plus five named scam categories, and the newest pinned alert on the app's Home screen.

Reporting and moderation

Report with a reason
Listings, Saath posts and comments can be reported by picking a quality reason (such as Spam or Duplicate) or a safety reason (such as Asking for money upfront, or Fake or stolen identity). One report per person per listing.
Hidden automatically
Three safety reports hide a listing. In Saath, three safety reports or five of any kind hide a post or comment. It stays hidden until the Chaana team reviews it.
Reviewed by people
An admin either dismisses the report and restores the content, or upholds it, removes the content and gives the poster a strike.
Strikes, suspension, ban
Three strikes within 90 days go to admin review. A first breach is a 30-day suspension; after a previous suspension the account is banned, and its email and phone cannot sign up again. People who file bad-faith reports can get strikes too.

Private by default

Numbers behind buttons
Phone numbers are never printed on listings, and they are masked on the Appointments screen.
Addresses
Business street addresses are hidden by default with an approximate map pin. Job seekers only show their suburb. Rooms show the street address the poster enters, to signed-in members.
Members only
Rooms, jobs, Saath and events can only be read by signed-in members.

How it works.

How to report something

  1. Tap Report on the listing, post or comment.
  2. Pick the reason that fits, such as "Asking for money upfront".
  3. Submit. The Chaana team reviews it, and three safety reports hide it straight away.
  4. If the report is upheld, the content is removed and the poster gets a strike.

What you get.

  • Warned at the right moment

The safety note appears as you reach out, when a warning can still stop a payment.

  • Content that goes quickly

Reported scams can disappear before the team has even looked, thanks to auto-hide.

  • Consequences that stick

Banned accounts cannot come back with the same email or phone.

How you are protected.

The safety rules and limits, stated plainly.

  • The contact safety note never blocks you. Low-risk listings show it at most once per listing every 30 days; risky listings show it every time; ABN notices always show.

  • Listings from suspended or banned accounts are hidden from everyone, and their Featured time stops.

  • Businesses have no contact safety note, so the same rule applies: never pay a deposit before you have confirmed the service.

Questions people ask.

How does Chaana protect me from rental or job scams?

Before you contact a room or job poster, a safety note appears. It says "Take extra care" and lists the reasons when the account is under a week old, the listing asks for money to hold a room or for job fees, the rent is implausibly low, or the pay is below $20 an hour; safety notes also sit on the Rooms and Jobs boards, and you can report any listing.

What happens when I report something on Chaana?

You pick a reason, for example "Asking for money upfront". Three safety reports hide a listing automatically until the Chaana team reviews it; upheld reports remove the content and give the poster a strike, and repeat offenders are suspended for 30 days, then banned.

Is my phone number shown publicly?

It is never printed on a listing. It sits behind the Call, Message and WhatsApp buttons, so members who contact you can reach you, and when you contact someone by SMS or phone, they see your number.

Is my address shown?

Room listings show the street address you enter, to signed-in members. Business street addresses are hidden by default, with an approximate map pin, unless the owner switches them on, and job seekers only show their suburb.

Can a banned person sign up again?

Not with the same details. When an account is banned, its email and phone are blocked from signing up again.

Safety is built in, not bolted on.
